Dealing with False Assumptions About Missionary Support: Why It Still Matters

Missionary work has always been at the heart of the Great Commission, yet it remains one of the most misunderstood aspects of Christian service. Many false assumptions surround missionary support—ideas like “it’s not as important today” or “missionaries don’t need as much help anymore.” These misconceptions hinder the progress of vital Gospel work. Missionaries play an irreplaceable role in sharing Christ’s love across the globe, and supporting them is as crucial now as ever.

The Challenges of Modern Missionary Work

Contrary to popular belief, the challenges missionaries face have not diminished in the modern era—they’ve evolved. From cultural and language barriers to the high cost of living and travel in remote areas, missionaries face logistical, emotional, and spiritual challenges daily. Many work in regions hostile to Christianity, risking their safety to share the Gospel. Yet, their resolve mirrors Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9: “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”

The Importance of Financial and Prayer Support

A common misconception is that missionaries receive ample funding from their churches or large organizations. In reality, most rely on individual donations and partnerships to sustain their work. Financial support allows missionaries to meet both their personal needs and the needs of those they serve, such as providing food, education, and healthcare. Equally important is prayer support, which provides spiritual strength and encouragement as they navigate the trials of their calling. As Philippians 4:19 reminds us, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

Missionaries: Spiritual Ambassadors

Missionaries are not just aid workers—they are ambassadors of Christ, bringing the Gospel to places where it has never been heard. Their work transcends social and material contributions by addressing the eternal needs of the human soul. They disciple new believers, plant churches, and equip local leaders to sustain the faith in their communities. Missionaries embody the heart of the Great Commission: to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19).

Transforming Lives and Communities

When missionaries are supported, the impact extends far beyond individuals. Whole communities are transformed by the power of the Gospel and the practical love of Christ. Schools are built, clean water is provided, and social injustices are addressed. The work of missionaries has a ripple effect, bringing hope, healing, and reconciliation to fractured communities. Their labor is a testament to the enduring relevance of missions in a broken world.

Reaffirming the Call to Support Missions

False assumptions about missionary support undermine the critical work of advancing the Gospel. Missionaries still need our prayers, encouragement, and financial contributions to fulfill their calling. Their work matters because every soul matters to God.

Dealing with False Assumptions About Missionary Support: Why It Still Matters

“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” – Romans 10:14

  • This year our mentor goes on break and I assume the responsibility of directing the ministry of Langham preaching schools in Colombia. It is a great responsibility. We are preparing for the end of January where we will do the planning and projection of the movement in Colombia.
  • This January we will have the planning meeting of the ministry team of Langham preaching schools in Colombia. Two of our main advisors will not be with us, so the team assumes all the responsibility of the team. I continue to move forward with some people in the missionary mobilization. Thankful to the Lord for these opportunities.

Financial Needs:

  •  We need resources for all the workshops and also for transformational preaching.
  • Financial sustainability for the ministry in Colombia and in the world. We are volunteers at the service of the Kingdom, but in the same way we need resources for mobilization and others.

Personal/Spiritual Needs:

  • My need is for my memory. May it be renewed to remember the processes both on a personal and ministerial level.
  • I ask for prayer because I have had a sensitivity in my mouth that keeps me indisposed all the time and with a headache.
