Focus

Jamil and Reema are a married couple of cross-cultural workers with a specific calling to the Muslim peoples of the Middle East, a region where they have already devoted years of their lives, specifically in northern Iraq. They currently serve as pastors in a church in Paraguay and from there, they continue to prepare themselves with their sights set on returning to the Middle East for long-term service, faithful to the calling that one day marked their history.

Journey

Both were born in the same village in western Cuba. At different times, they came to know the Lord while attending university: Jamil in 2010 and Reema in 2013. They attended the same local church, where their paths crossed for the first time and, over time, led to a courtship that culminated in marriage in July 2017.

Jamil graduated as a computer engineer in 2012 and, moved by a deep spiritual thirst, began studying theology and the Bible in 2015. Reema, for her part, graduated with a doctorate in medicine that same year and in 2017 began her theological training at the same seminary as her husband. As they prepared academically, God was forming something deeper in their hearts: a growing passion for Muslim peoples.

From then on, their lives took a new direction. They trained in cross-cultural missions, studied the Muslim faith and culture, and received preparation at the Sembradores Missionary Training Centre (CEMS).

In 2020, while serving as missionaries in a rural community in western Cuba, their first daughter, Roza, was born. Two years later, God opened the door for them to serve in northern Iraq, where they remained for two years and three months. There, medicine became a bridge: through medical care in vulnerable Muslim communities, God opened hearts to heal, proclaim the gospel, disciple, and share Scripture with neighbors, patients, and friends.

Since 2025, they have been developing their pastoral ministry in a congregation in Paraguay, where their youngest daughter, Sarah, was born. While accompanying and strengthening the local church, they continue in a time of intentional formation and discernment, with their hearts set on a new mission to the Middle East, longing to settle there with a long-term commitment.
